Job summary

Blackstone Valley Vocational Regional School District in Upton, Massachusetts is seeking a School Counseling Teacher Assistant for the Extended Leave Program, providing direct academic, organizational, and transitional support to students returning after an extended absence under the supervision of the Extended Leave Program Liaison.

The role also supports the School Counseling Department with grades 9–12 counseling curriculum, student programming, events, data collection, and other department

Qualifications

• College credit and/or experience preferred.
• Ability to relate positively to high school students and colleagues.
• Experience with special needs students preferred.
• Able to work effectively in-person and remote educational models.
• Inspires excellence, fosters consensus, communicates with humor and enthusiasm.
• Demonstrates professional history with solid references.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct academic and organizational support to students in the Extended Leave Program.
• Assist students with organizing, prioritizing, and completing make-up work, assignments, and assessments.
• Offer individual or small-group academic assistance as directed by staff.
• Reinforce study, time-management, and self-advocacy skills to promote independence.
• Support students in transitioning back into classes after extended absence.
• Monitor participation, engagement, and progress; report concerns to the liaison.
• Assist with coordinating schedules, tutoring needs, and re-entry processes.
• Maintain a confidential, respectful learning environment.
• Assist with program documentation, data entry, and surveys.
• Prepare materials for counseling lessons and activities.
• Support counseling events including college/career readiness and wellness.
• Contribute to program evaluations and data collection as directed.
