Job summary

San Diego City College is seeking a Student Services Assistant (SSA) in the EOPS, CARE and NextUp Department to act as the front desk contact for students and staff. Hours run Monday–Friday, 8am–5pm, with flexibility to adjust based on department needs.

The position may be transferred to other SDCCD sites at the Chancellor’s option. The ideal candidate demonstrates commitment to student success with strong customer service, confidentiality under FERPA, and proficiency with Microsoft Office and

  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills at the front desk of the EOPS Department.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion per FERPA guidelines.
  • Knowledge of EOPS, CARE and NextUp programs and eligibility requirements.
  • Experience in customer service, reception, or student support environments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with office equipment.
  • Ability to learn and use student information systems such as ConexEd and PeopleSoft.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment with professionalism.
  • Bilingual skills in English/Spanish (or other student population languages) are highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as front desk point of contact for EOPS, CARE and NextUp students, staff, and visitors.
  • Greet and assist students and staff professionally and welcomingly at the front desk.
  • Maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive student information under FERPA guidelines.
  • Utilize ConexEd and PeopleSoft for student information and scheduling tasks.
  • Collaborate with Counselors, technicians, and department leadership to support operations.

Job description

Applications are currently being accepted for Student Services Assistant (SSA) in the EOPS, CARE and NextUp Department, located at San Diego City College. The EOPS SSA role is stationed at the front desk and is the first point of contact for our EOPS, CARE and NextUp students. Hours are Monday through Friday from 8am-5pm. Selected candidate must be willing to adjust workdays/hours based on the department’s needs.

Desired Qualifications
  • The EOPS SSA role is stationed at the front desk and is the first point of contact for our EOPS , CARE and NextUp students.
    • Demonstrated commitment to supporting the success of students from diverse educational, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
    • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, with the ability to greet and assist students, staff, faculty, and community members in a professional and welcoming manner at the front desk of the EOPS Department.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling sensitive student information in accordance with FERPA guidelines.
    • Knowledge of the mission, services, and eligibility requirements of the Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS), CARE and NextUp programs.
    • Experience working in customer service, reception, office, educational, or student support environment.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams) and familiarity with office equipment such as phones, computers, printers, copiers, and scanners.
    • Ability to learn and utilize student information systems and college databases such as ConexEd and PeopleSoft.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalism.
    • Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
    • Ability to collaborate effectively with Counselors, Classified Professionals (Technicians), students, project assistants, Department Chair and administrators in order to contribute to a positive office environment.
    • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish or other languages represented by the student population) are highly desirable.

Compensation and Employment
  • New employees will begin on Step K ($5,451.00).
  • Salary negotiation is not allowed.
  • This position is FLSA Non-exempt (may accrue overtime).
  • Promoted or transferred employees will be placed as specified in the CBA.
  • Excellent benefits are provided to all Contract employees with assignments greater than or equal to 50% (0.50 FTE) and all eligible dependents.
  • A temporary probationary period will apply to the employee entering this assignment.
