Job description

Provides evaluation of and care for respiratory therapy patients under the direct supervision of a licensed registered or certified respiratory therapist.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

• Licensed by West Virginia Board of Respiratory Care under a student temporary permit, or applicable state where services will be performed.
• Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Set up and maintain low flow oxygen devices of 6 LPM or less to include nasal cannula or a simple mask.
• Set up and maintain aerosol devices with Fi02 of equal to or less than 50%.
• Deliver medications through a spontaneous small volume nebulizer.
• Deliver medication via Metered Dose Inhaler (MDI) or dry powder inhaler.
• Measure peak flow, simple spirometry, and pulse oximetry.
• Administer airway clearance devices or techniques: therapy vest, chest physiotherapy, incentive spirometry, suctioning via artificial airway, and positive expiratory pressure therapies.
• Communicate appropriately and effectively with other members of the healthcare team regarding all aspects of patient care.
• Assist with patient and family/caregiver education along with other healthcare team members.
