Job description

Are you looking to jump start your career in Respiratory Therapy? Currently enrolled in a Respiratory Therapy Program and eager to gain real-world experience. The Student Respiratory Care Assistant role with UPMC Somerset may be what you're looking for!

Under the general direction of a respiratory therapist, and in accordance with the PA Practice Act or NY State guidelines, you'll perform a variety of functions. These include ordering, inventorying, and distributing equipment, including medical gases, and assisting clinical staff with various tasks.

Schedule:

  • Flexible based on your school schedule
  • No holidays or weekends

Responsibilities:

  • Exhibit and practice service excellence by actively seeking, listening, and responding to the needs of patients, their families, physicians, staff, and others.
  • Maintain the supply of transport oxygen and oxygen cylinders on all inpatient units, emergency departments, and clinic areas.
  • Perform routine assembly, maintenance, and cleaning of respiratory care equipment; disinfect equipment prior to calibration and assembly.
  • Transport dirty equipment to appropriate areas using infection control techniques.
  • Handle and use cleaning and disinfecting solutions and equipment appropriately.
  • Demonstrate appropriate use of personal protective equipment.
  • Report equipment malfunctions to respiratory leadership.
  • Inspect equipment for correct assembly, ensure all parts are in proper working order, and perform preventative maintenance.
  • Transport equipment between inpatient units and procedure areas as directed by a respiratory therapist.
  • Assist respiratory therapists with bronchoscope procedures, non-emergent intubations and extubations, and downloading and documenting sleep studies.
