Preferred Education / Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of one year of experience working with dementia residents in long-term care.
• At least minimal experience in planning and directing activities for elderly residents, and in planning and organizing special programs for residents, families and staff.

• Able to work full-time or part-time as agreed upon with Resident Experience Director, with some evening and weekend work.

Job Summary

You must be a current UK student to apply for this position. This position is located off-campus with a local Lexington employer and is not affiliated with UK.

Assist Resident Experience Director in planning and providing activities that support and maintain the residents’ quality of life, and that meet state requirements for addressing the residents’ social, physical, spiritual and mental health.

Essential Job Functions:

• Plans, coordinates and implements programming to address the needs of residents with varying abilities.
• Provides supportive programming in a comfortable environment to residents who are not able to tolerate stimulation of a group program.
• Assist Resident Experience Director in creating displaying and distributing a monthly Activity Calendar that is both informative and attractive.
• Assists the Resident Experience Director in maintaining an updated social history file on each resident.
• Meets all new residents and families upon arrival, informing them of the activity program and encouraging participation.
• As directed, coordinates with the Dietary Department regarding food-related needs.
• Assist with inventory of supplies and equipment and submits monthly list of needs to the Resident Experience Director.
• Coordinates all programming in conjunction with the Resident Experience Director.
• Role models Meaningful Moments program and philosophy to all staff.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

• Basic knowledge of current dementia-care practices and communication strategies.
• Good verbal communication skills, including ability to give directions to others in a manner that is pleasant and easily understood.
• Ability to display enthusiasm and a positive attitude in promoting activities, and in enlisting the support of facility team members for activity programming.
• Must have a valid state driver’s license.

Working Conditions

• Ability to travel locally if necessary, to purchase supplies and participate in resident outings.

Physical/Sensory Requirements

• Medium work – Ability to exert 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
• Must be able to see well enough to write and read English, use computer, and visually interact with residents, families, visitors and staff.
• Must be able to speak and hear well enough to verbally interact with residents, families, visitors and staff.
