Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Promote Pride Center resources via outreach and tabling.
  • Assist with front desk duties and office tasks.
  • Attend staff meetings and assist with programs.
  • Conduct counts of customers and buildings.
  • Provide general office support (phone, typing, filing, photocopying, mailing).

JOB DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the Pride Center Supervisor, the Student Pride Center Assistant I is responsible for serving as the point-of-contact for the Pride Center, including but not limited to welcoming guests, answering questions, providing support, information, and resources of LGBTQIA2S (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual, Two-Spirited) events and services to students and guest.

JOB DUTIES
  • Answer questions and share information relative to the events and services provided by the Pride Center, as well as external resources available in the local LGBTQIA2S communities
  • Provide excellent customer service by greeting guests and creating a welcoming environment in the Pride Center
  • Support and maintain partnerships and professional working relationships with Univeristy Student Union (USU) staff, students, volunteers, university departments, faculty, and clubs and organizations
  • Promote Pride Center resources, events, and services through outreach and tabling
  • Support in ensuring the front desk and the Pride Center facility are clean and organized
  • Attend staff meetings and one-on-one meetings with supervisor
  • Assist with the execution of all Pride Center programs and events
  • Conduct customer and building counts
  • Provids general office support including but not limited to answering telephones, taking messages, performing simple to complex typing, filing, photocopying, faxing and mailing
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

  • Must be a currently enrolled CSUN student

EXPERIENCE

  • Previous related experience and/or specialized education not required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to be detailed oriented, self-motivated, and possess initiative
  • Ability or ability to learn to serve as a resource and role model to peers and guest
  • Establish or learn to establish computer skills e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, Teams, etc.
  • Ability or ability to learn verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to receive feedback and make appropriate changes as required
  • Ability or ability to learn to effectively coordinate multiple tasks, adhere to deadlines, follow directions, utilize time efficiently, and maintain productivity without immediate supervision
  • Ability to work in a culturally diverse, ethnically pluralistic environment
  • Establish or learn to establish customer service skills

SUPERVISION

Supervision is provided by the Pride Center Supervisor

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is primarily performed in a temperature-controlled office environment. Work is occasionally performed outdoors, in different climactic conditions. Daily contact with members of the campus community, including students, faculty, staff, administrators and guests, is required. In addition to regularly assigned work schedule Monday-Friday, must possess an ability and willingness to work some weekends, academic interim, and break periods as needed; must be flexible, adaptable, and readily able to adjust to changes in work environment.
