Select Specialty Hospital Hampton Roads in Newport News, VA is seeking a Student Nurse Tech (Future Registered Nurse) for full-time days. You will assist with basic patient care, obtain vital signs, and support the care team under RN supervision, gaining hands-on experience while you complete nursing coursework.

The position includes an orientation program, scholarship opportunities, tuition reimbursement, and a pathway to an RN career.

Qualifications

• Current enrollment in an accredited nursing school (ADN or BSN) and proof of completion of the first year/fundamentals of nursing (or equivalent).
• Knowledge of basic nursing techniques and aseptic practices.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to follow written and verbal instructions, and to maintain effective working relations with others including patients, families, physicians and other hospital associates.
• BLS certification required upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Obtain vital signs, height, weight, and demographic data.
• Assist patients with personal and daily care, such as bathing, oral hygiene, shaving and hair care.
• Assist with urinary catheter removal, finger stick blood sugars, bladder scans, routine urine and stool specimen collection, ostomy care and drainage tubes.
• Remove peripheral IVs as directed by RN (may not remove any IVs located in antecubital fossa or higher).
• Deliver meals and snacks, feed patients who are unable to feed themselves and document oral intake.
• Turn and position immobile patients safely while maintaining proper body alignment; participate in mobility program.
• Transport patients to designated areas, such as to and from various treatment centers.
