Select Specialty Hospital Hampton Roads in Newport News, VA seeks a Student Nurse Technician (Future Registered Nurse) to support patient care during the Per Diem Night Shift. You must be enrolled in an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN) and provide proof of year-one completion.

This role offers hands-on experience aligned with NCLEX readiness. Responsibilities include vital signs, personal care, meal delivery, mobility assistance, basic nursing techniques, documentation, and collaboration

Qualifications

• Current enrollment in an accredited nursing school (ADN or BSN program) and must provide proof of completion of the first year/fundamentals of nursing (or equivalent).

Responsibilities

• Obtain vital signs, height, weight and demographic data
• Assist patients with personal and daily care (bathing, oral hygiene, shaving, hair care)
• Assist with urinary catheter removal, vaginal/urine tests and specimen collection
• Remove peripheral IVs as directed by RN
• Deliver meals and snacks and document oral intake
• Turn and reposition immobile patients and assist with mobility programs
• Transport patients to treatment areas
• Obtain and document basic nursing data and maintain aseptic technique
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and hospital staff

Schedule: Per Diem Night Shift

Compensation: $24 per hour

• Assist with urinary catheter removal, finger stick blood sugars, bladder scans, routine urine and stool specimen collection, ostomy care and emptying drainage receptacles/tubes
• Remove peripheral IV’s as directed by RN (may not remove any IV’s located in antecubital fossa or higher)
• Deliver meals and snacks, feed patients who are unable to feed themselves and document oral intake
• Turn and position immobile patients safely while maintaining proper body alignment; participate in mobility program
• Transport patients to designated areas, such as to and from various treatment centers
• Current enrollment in an accredited nursing school (ADN or BSN program) - must provide proof of completion of the first year/fundamentals of nursing (or equivalent)
• Knowledge of basic nursing techniques and procedures and aseptic practices
• Requires the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to follow written and verbal instructions, and to maintain effective working relations with others including patients, families, physicians and other hospital associates.
