Job summary

Select Specialty Hospital Hampton Roads in Newport News, VA is seeking a Student Nurse Technician who is actively enrolled in an ADN or BSN program to join our per diem day shift team. The role supports RN care, takes vital signs, assists with daily activities, and helps with mobility and patient comfort.

You must provide proof of completion of the first year/fundamentals of nursing and hold BLS certification.

Qualifications

• Current enrollment in accredited nursing school (ADN or BSN) and proof of completion of first year/fundamentals of nursing (or equivalent).
• Knowledge of basic nursing techniques and aseptic practices.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians and staff.
• BLS certification required upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Obtain vital signs, height, weight, and demographic data.
• Assist with daily living activities and personal care for patients.
• Assist with urinary catheter removal, finger stick blood sugars, bladder scans, and specimen collection.
• Remove peripheral IVs under RN direction.
• Deliver meals, assist with feeding, and document intake.
• Turn, position, and mobilize immobile patients.
• Transport patients to treatment centers as needed.
