Job summary

Select Specialty Hospital - Hampton Roads in Newport News, VA is seeking a Student Nurse Tech (Future Registered Nurse) to gain hands-on experience while enrolled in an ADN/BSN program. The role focuses on vital signs, daily care support, mobility, and patient transport within a 12-hour day shift.

The program offers scholarships, tuition reimbursement, and a structured New Graduate RN pathway after progression.

Qualifications

• Current enrollment in an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN) with proof of completion of the first year/fundamentals of nursing.
• Knowledge of basic nursing techniques and aseptic practices.
• Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and to follow instructions while working with a team.
• BLS certification required on hire.

Responsibilities

• Obtain vital signs, height, weight and demographic data.
• Assist patients with personal and daily care (bathing, oral hygiene, shaving, hair care).
• Assist with urinary catheter removal, finger-stick blood sugars, bladder scans, routine urine and stool specimen collection, ostomy care and drainage management.
• Remove peripheral IVs as directed by RN.
• Deliver meals and snacks; assist feeding and document oral intake.
• Turn and position immobile patients; participate in mobility program.
• Transport patients to designated areas and treatment centers.
