Job summary

Select Specialty Hospital in Gulfport, MS is seeking a Student Nurse Tech (Future Registered Nurse) to support nursing staff during night shifts. You must be enrolled in an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN) and provide proof of year coursework.

Duties include vital sign checks, daily care, and basic procedures under RN supervision. The role offers hands-on experience, 12-hour night shifts 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, and pathways to continued education including scholarships and tuition

Qualifications

• Current enrollment in an accredited nursing program and proof of first year completion.
• Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with patients and staff.
• BLS certification required upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Obtain vital signs, height, weight and demographics.
• Assist with personal and daily care such as bathing and oral hygiene.
• Assist with urinary catheter removal, finger-stick blood sugars, urine/stool collection.
• Remove peripheral IVs as directed by RN.
• Deliver meals and assist patients with feeding and document intake.
• Turn and reposition immobile patients and participate in mobility programs.
• Transport patients to designated areas.

Responsibilities

• Obtain vital signs, height, weight and demographic data
• Assist patients with personal and daily care, such as bathing, oral hygiene, shaving and hair care
• Assist with urinary catheter removal, finger stick blood sugars, bladder scans, routine urine and stool specimen collection, ostomy care and emptying drainage receptacles/tubes
• Remove peripheral IV’s as directed by RN (may not remove any IV’s located in antecubital fossa or higher)
• Deliver meals and snacks, feed patients who are unable to feed themselves and document oral intake
• Turn and position immobile patients safely while maintaining proper body alignment; participate in mobility program
• Transport patients to designated areas, such as to and from various treatment centers

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Current enrollment in an accredited nursing school (ADN or BSN program) - must provide proof of completion of the first year/fundamentals of nursing (or equivalent)
• Knowledge of basic nursing techniques and procedures and aseptic practices
• Requires the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to follow written and verbal instructions, and to maintain effective working relations with others including patients, families, physicians and other hospital associates.
• BLS certification required upon hire
