Job summary

Select Specialty Hospital in Belhaven, MS is seeking a Student Nurse Technician (Future Registered Nurse) for PRN/Per Diem, 12-hour day or night shifts. This role provides hands-on experience supporting patient care under RN supervision.

The position requires current enrollment in an accredited nursing program (ADN/BSN) and proof of first-year fundamentals completion. BLS is required on hire, with orientation and potential future opportunities within the organization.

Qualifications

• Current enrollment in an accredited nursing school (ADN or BSN) and proof of completion of the first year/fundamentals of nursing (or equivalent).
• Knowledge of basic nursing techniques and aseptic practices.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and to follow instructions.
• BLS certification required upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Obtain vital signs, height, weight and demographic data
• Assist patients with daily care (bathing, oral hygiene, shaving, hair care)
• Assist with urinary catheter removal, finger stick blood sugars, bladder scans, specimen collection
• Remove peripheral IVs as directed by RN
• Deliver meals, feed patients, and document intake
• Turn and position immobile patients and assist mobility
• Transport patients to designated areas

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with personal and daily care, such as bathing, oral hygiene, shaving and hair care
• Assist with urinary catheter removal, finger stick blood sugars, bladder scans, routine urine and stool specimen collection, ostomy care and emptying drainage receptacles/tubes
• Remove peripheral IV’s as directed by RN (may not remove any IV’s located in antecubital fossa or higher)
• Deliver meals and snacks, feed patients who are unable to feed themselves and document oral intake
• Turn and position immobile patients safely while maintaining proper body alignment; participate in mobility program
• Transport patients to designated areas, such as to and from various treatment centers

Qualifications

• Current enrollment in an accredited nursing school (ADN or BSN program) - must provide proof of completion of the first year/fundamentals of nursing (or equivalent)
• Knowledge of basic nursing techniques and procedures and aseptic practices
• Requires the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally & in writing, to follow written and verbal instructions, and to maintain effective working relations with others including patients, families, physicians and other hospital associates.
• BLS certification required upon hire
