Student Mentor – Wellness Center

Harry S Truman College is seeking Student Mentors to support theWellness Center. The Wellness Centers are located across the CityColleges of Chicago to provide students mental health services andreferrals in the community college setting. The student mentorhelps direct students to mental health and basic needs resourcesand acts as a liaison between wellness staff and students. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Completes mandatory Student Mentor orientation on wellnesstopics, community resources, and mental health awareness.
- Engage with peers on campus to improve awareness of collegeresources and off-campus community resources.
- Completes administrative and support tasks to support theWellness Center programming.
- Engages in ongoing training and professional development toimprove understanding of mental health services and support anddisparate impacts on marginalized populations.
- Supports outreach efforts by developing programming materials,disseminating flyers, creating social media posts, and helping tocoordinate Wellness Center events.
- Attends monthly meetings with Wellness Center staff, and otheroffices and departments as needed
- Advocates for mental health on campus and works to reduce stigmarelated to mental health.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Applicants must be 18 years or older, have work permit consent,and eligible to work in the United States.
- Applicants must be actively attending one of the City Colleges ofChicago.
- Applicants must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 semester hourscredit classes.
- Applicants must be pursuing an approved educational credential,degree, or certificate.
- Applicants must have and maintain a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA(waived for first semester new students).
- Applicants must be in “good standing” – no City Colleges ofChicago academic restrictions.
- Applicants must not be current Full or Part-time employees of theCity Colleges of Chicago.
- All positions are “employment at-will”.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma required or actively pursuing a GED at theCity Colleges of Chicago.
- Knowledge of City Colleges of Chicago, student activities,college resources and student services; knowledge of specific majoror program.
- Good interpersonal skills with a positive attitude and ease inrelating to people from a variety of educational, cultural andsocial backgrounds.
- Demonstrated good study techniques and skills.
- Good oral communication skills.
- Knowledge of computer software programs.
The hourly rate for this position is $17.05/hr. The rate paid isin accordance with City Colleges approved salary scale.
