Job summary

University of North Carolina Charlotte is seeking an Assistant Director of Student Media to advise and support student media organizations, train student staff, and lead media technology and distribution initiatives. The role reports to the Director of Student Niner Media Advising and Support and oversees training and outreach across multiple media outlets.

The position requires a Bachelor's degree with two years of media experience, with a Master’s preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and two years of media experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Master's degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Budget experience is preferred.
  • Supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of media law & ethics and AP Style is preferred.
  • Higher education student media advising and training experience is preferred.
  • Media experience may include print, production, advertising, online, podcasting and/or video.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills are essential.
  • Operational knowledge of media technology and related trends is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide training, advising, and development for the students within Student Niner Media.
  • Provide support for production and distribution of media developed through Student Niner Media, including requisite technology for online media.
  • Supervise student employees and interns.
  • Provide organizational management and administration support for Student Niner Media organizations and initiatives.
  • Provide leadership and coordination of departmental training and outreach efforts.
