  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Event Coverage: Assist with the production of large campus events such as Commencement and other student activities.
  • Broadcasting & Radio: Serve as a radio host, assist with holiday shows, live broadcasts, and live streaming of campus events.
  • Photography: Take photos at campus events, provide images for publicity, and support student organizations with media coverage.
  • Writing & Content Creation: Contribute written assignments, event recaps, or publicity content for campus publications and social media.
  • Sports Coverage: Support media production and coverage of campus athletics and intramural sports.
  • Equipment Support: Assist with equipment check-out, setup, and troubleshooting for students and staff.
  • Accessibility & Innovation: Explore creative approaches to remote media coverage and streaming, including supporting adaptive technology initiatives.
  • Collaboration: Work with JMS faculty, staff, and student organizations to ensure timely and high-quality media production.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Student Media Assistant supports the Journalism, Media & Studies (JMS) Department by assisting with campus media production, event coverage, and communications. Students in this role may be assigned responsibilities in photography, writing, broadcasting, or live streaming, and will help capture and share the campus story while gaining hands-on experience with media and communications.

KEY RESPPONSIIBLITIES
  • Event Coverage: Assist with the production of large campus events such as Commencement, ACES, and other student activities.
  • Broadcasting & Radio: Serve as a radio host, assist with holiday shows, live broadcasts, and live streaming of campus events.
  • Photography: Take photos at campus events, provide images for publicity, and support student organizations with media coverage.
  • Writing & Content Creation: Contribute written assignments, event recaps, or publicity content for campus publications and social media.
  • Sports Coverage: Support media production and coverage of campus athletics and intramural sports.
  • Equipment Support: Assist with equipment check-out, setup, and troubleshooting for students and staff.

  • Perform additional communications, media, or administrative tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be a current student enrolled in the federal work study program and in good academic standing.
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to work assigned shifts (some evenings and weekends may be required).
  • Interest or experience in one or more of the following areas: broadcasting, radio, photography, live streaming, journalism, writing, or event production.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies.
  • Professionalism, creativity, and respect for confidentiality.
WORK SCHEDULE
  • Shifts vary based on event and production schedules, with some evening and weekend hours required.
  • Hours are contingent upon federal work study award allocation and student class schedule.
COMPENSATION

Hourly rate based on federal work study guidelines.
