Job summary

Miami University Hamilton is seeking temporary Tutor-Mentors for the Upward Bound program, June 1 through July 17, 2026. You will mentor high school students from Hamilton High School, support academic skills, and help build college pathways on the campus.

Work hours are Monday–Thursday, 8:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m., with occasional extended or weekend duties. This is a fixed-term summer position with potential continuation into the 2026–27 year depending on need and performance.

Qualifications

• Rising college sophomores, juniors, seniors, or graduates (by start of summer) in good academic standing.
• Availability June 1–July 17, 2026.
• Experience with mentoring or tutoring is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Mentor groups of up to 20 students and facilitate workshops.
• Track student progress and wellbeing with Upward Bound staff.
• Help students develop study skills and college pathways.

Job Description Summary

The Upward Bound Tutor-Mentor (TM) will work for six weeks duringthe summer program, from June 1–July 17, 2026, with high schoolstudents from Hamilton High School participating in MiamiUniversity Hamilton’s Upward Bound program. The program includesacademic, cultural,
and recreational activities and is based on the Miami UniversityHamilton campus.
Tutor-Mentors support academic excellence, mentor students in theircollege pathways, and help foster a strong sense of community andbelonging. Standard work hours are Monday–Thursday, 8:30 a.m.–1:30p.m., with occasional extended, overnight, and/or weekendresponsibilities. Training may occur in early May.
This is a temporary position, and multiple Tutor-Mentors will behired. Limited opportunities to continue working during the 2026–27school year may be available.

Job Description

Essential Duties

• Mentor groups of <20 students, including planning andfacilitating workshops and events.
• Communicate with Upward Bound staff regarding students’progress and well-being.
• Facilitate student learning by helping them develop strongstudy skills.
• Advise students on how to set goals to benefit their overallacademic success.
• Guide students to developing critical thinking skills andindependently solve problems.
• Refer students to the proper campus resources whennecessary.
• Serve as a role model and maintain strong professionalboundaries with students.
• Promote a community of mutual trust and respect 9. Use of basicoffice software (Google Docs, Microsoft Word, etc) and tasks suchas making copies.
• Other duties as needed

Required Qualifications

Rising college sophomores, juniors, seniors, or graduates (by thebeginning of the summer program) in good academic standing and adesire to work with high-school students. All Tutor-Mentors must beavailable from June 1st - July 17th.

• Minimum 2.80 GPA
• At least 30 hours of earned college credit
• At least one full academic year as a full-time collegestudent

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience leading small groups,tutoring, mentoring, or working with high school-aged youth
• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
• Prior experience with conflict resolution (i.e. in a job, studentorganization, volunteer project)
• Reliable, with excellentattendance habits
• Detail-oriented
• Courteous, welcoming demeanorand dedication to assist students, parents, faculty, and staff
• Strong organizational skills
• Excellent customer serviceskills

Additional Position Information (if applicable)

Domestic students may work up to 22 hours weekly during theacademic year. International students may work up to 20 hoursweekly during the academic year.
