Job summary

City of Port Arthur is seeking a Student Assistant for the Port Arthur Public Library in Port Arthur, TX. Under supervision, you will support circulation tasks and help patrons.

Responsibilities include shelving, checking out materials, answering phones, and maintaining order on shelves. Applicants must be Lamar State College or Lamar University students.

This is a part-time, non-exempt position with a pay rate of $12.00 per hour.

Qualifications

• Must be a Lamar State College or Lamar University qualifying student.
• Student assistants are usually chosen from among the best qualified students who plan to attend Lamar State College, Lamar University or other higher education institute.
• Preference is given to those interested in library work as a profession.

Responsibilities

• Sort and shelve books.
• Review and maintain order of books on shelves.
• Check out library materials to patrons and register items in upon return.
• Answer telephone and direct calls.
• Review and maintain the order of books on all shelves.
• Collect and shelve books and magazines left out of place by patrons.
• Assist patrons in the use of photocopy machines.
• Perform other duties to meet the library's needs.
