Job summary

The University of Virginia invites applications for a Student assistant for stacks and reference desk. This part-time position provides customer service, basic data entry, and library tasks in a high-security research environment.

10 hours per week with rotating Saturday shifts; Federal Work-Study preferred and compensation is $16.71 per hour. Responsibilities include retrieving materials, shelving, scanning rare books, assisting with interlibrary loan, and using Virgo, Workflows, ArchiveSpace

Qualifications

• Duties require helpful customer service and data entry.
• Must work carefully with fragile historical materials.
• Must be UVA student and able to work independently with strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Retrieve books, manuscripts, archives from closed stacks for researchers or classes.
• Shelve new books and create homes for them.
• Manage serials and re-shelving per protocols to maintain accuracy.
• Scan rare books and primary sources for researchers.
• Process interlibrary loan requests.
• Use library systems (Virgo, Workflows, ArchiveSpace) and finding aids for basic research.
