Job summary

The University of Virginia Libraries is seeking Federal Work-Study stacks assistants for Shannon and Clemons Libraries for the Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 semesters. Positions are part-time (six to ten hours per week) with eligibility for Work-Study being required.

Training is provided and schedules are flexible, set with the Stacks Supervisor. Responsibilities include returning materials to the stacks, moving shelves, helping patrons locate items, and basic stacks maintenance.

Qualifications

• Resume and cover letter required.
• Currently UVA student with Federal Work Study eligibility.
• No prior experience required.

Responsibilities

• Return library materials to the stacks for patron access.
• Move/shift sections of books to accommodate space or special projects.
• Assist patrons with book searches and locate materials.
• Retrieve used books from the stacks and perform general stacks maintenance.
• Lift books, push heavy book carts, and tolerate dust exposure.
