Job description

Finance Internship - Accounting & Budgeting

ISO New England is the independent system operator responsible for ensuring the safe and reliable flow of electricity in our region and planning for the future of the electric grid. We are at the forefront of New England's ongoing transition to clean energy.

Department - Finance
Minimum Education Level: Rising Junior
Preferred Majors: Accounting
Launch your finance career while helping keep New England's power grid running.

ISO New England is looking for a motivated accounting student ready to turn classroom knowledge into real-world experience. In this internship, you'll work with finance professionals, strengthen your Excel and accounting skills, and contribute to meaningful budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and analysis that supports a mission-driven organization serving millions of people across New England.

If you're a rising junior majoring in Accounting and eager to build practical finance experience, this internship is designed for you. You'll support financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, performance reporting, reconciliations, and monthly accounting activities while learning how strong financial management supports reliable operations at a major regional organization.

You’ll gain hands-on exposure to corporate finance, collaborate with experienced professionals, and build skills that can help you stand out as you prepare for a career in accounting, budgeting, financial analysis, or business operations.

Who we are

ISO New England is one of the most important energy organizations many people have never heard of. We oversee the 24/7 operation of the power grid across the six New England states and administer the region's $10+ billion wholesale electricity marketplace. Our work helps ensure more than 14 million people can reliably turn on the lights, power their communities, take care of their families, and live comfortably every day.

About the Department

The Finance Department at ISO New England is responsible for safeguarding and growing the company's assets while ensuring compliance with audit requirements, generally accepted accounting principles, and the highest ethical standards. The team establishes and maintains financial policies and procedures that keep the organization running smoothly and responsibly.

What You'll Be Working On

As a Finance Intern, you'll support the organization's financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and performance reporting activities. You may help prepare analysis, review financial information, support reporting needs, assist with reconciliations and journal entries, and contribute to month-end close processes. Your work will give you a practical look at how finance teams use data, controls, and analysis to guide smart business decisions.

How You'll Make an Impact

Your contributions will help strengthen the accuracy, integrity, and efficiency of ISO New England's financial operations. By supporting budgeting, reporting, forecasting, and accounting activities, you'll help the finance team maintain disciplined financial management and provide insights that support critical business decisions. This is a chance to see how accounting and finance connect directly to an essential public mission.

What We Look For
  • Current enrollment in a four-year accounting program; rising junior preferred
  • Interest in budgeting, forecasting, accounting operations, financial reporting, or business analysis
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook
  • Strong technical aptitude and comfort learning accounting or finance applications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Curiosity, attention to detail, professionalism, and a willingness to learn
  • Previous work experience in a professional setting preferred
