  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5.

Job Title: STUDENT INTERN - SAFETY (DGC)

Job Description:

POSITION PURPOSE

This position is at our Dakota Gasification Company location in Beulah, ND. This position is for the summer months of 2027 (approximately May 17, 2027 through August 20, 2027). Supports the communication, maintenance, and development of an effective compliance and safety management system to prevent accidents, injuries, occupational illnesses, property damage and other events which may inhibit the operational capability of the plant or its personnel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Provide support for Compliance, Safety and Industrial Hygiene programs to ensure regulatory compliance and continuously improve performance.
  • Develop working knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental, health and safety regulations.
  • Conduct Continuous Improvement Observations and perform related follow-up action.
  • Conducts industrial hygiene surveys throughout the plant site to identify and/or evaluate areas of possible employee exposure to hazardous chemicals and physical agents.
  • Advise field supervision on the appropriate selection or use of protective equipment.
  • Assist in the development and presentation of safety training programs for all employees.
  • Provide assistance during investigations of basic accidents or injuries and prepares internal reports for follow-up and corrective action.
  • Manage the development of company product Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and company SDS database.
  • Provide proper record keeping tools and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory records management.
  • Assist in the management and administration of various safety programs.
  • Support the annual Family Night event, including setup, participation, and cleanup, as part of departmental responsibilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Be enrolled as a full-time student four-year Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, or related program with Sophomore year completed, or recent graduate (within the past 12 months).
  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license.
  • Transcript required at time of application.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Previous internship or relevant work experience.
  • Additional certifications or coursework in field of study.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

This position requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching below shoulder level, and use of keyboard/computer; and occasional bending, climbing stairs and ladders, kneeling, reaching above shoulder level, crawling, and pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds. Frequently requires lifting or carrying up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Requires good finger dexterity, ability to perform close work, good hearing and vision, and the ability to speak. Frequently, may be exposed to fumes, chemicals, and noise and occasionally exposed to extreme heat, cold, dirt, dust, and poor ventilation when working in field conditions. May also require working in high climbing areas requiring use of safety equipment; and may involve work in confined spaces to take measurements. Must meet ANSI Standards, weight maximum with equipment is 310lbs. This position must be respirator qualified and be able to operator a motor vehicle.
