Job summary

Basin Electric Power Cooperative is offering a summer internship in the Energy Markets division at our Headquarters in Bismarck, ND. The role provides temporary, project-based assistance while exposing you to Cooperative operations and practices.

You will support gas contracts, wind power settlements, billing, and data analysis, with tasks aligned to your business/finance/accounting studies. On-site work May 17, 2027 to August 20, 2027, GPA 2.5+ and transcript required.

Qualifications

  • Be enrolled as a full-time student in a four-year Business, Finance, or Accounting program with at least two years completed or recent graduate (within the past 12 months).
  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5.
  • Transcript required at time of application.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the checkout process of gas purchase and sales contracts to ensure accurate settlement of transactions.
  • Assist with the settlement of wind purchase power agreements with numerous counterparties such as validating curtailments and providing calculations for the counterparties to confirm.
  • Assist with the settlement of short-term transmission, energy and capacity transactions.
  • Complete monthly billing.
  • Investigate abnormalities in market activities to determine causes and develop solutions to resolve or improve market activities.
  • Support the development and expansion of data and systems related to market analysis functions.
  • Project assignments and ad-hoc requests for data and analysis to support Energy Markets and reporting processes.
  • Follow safety, security, and procedural guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

This position is located at our Headquarters building in Bismarck, ND.

This position is for the summer months of 2027 (approximately May 17, 2027 through August 20, 2027).

This position provides temporary, project-based assistance in the Energy Markets division at headquarters. The incumbent will gain exposure to Cooperative operations and practices while supporting teams with hands-on tasks and assignments appropriate to their field of study.

  • Assist with the checkout process of gas purchase and sales contracts to ensure accurate settlement of transactions.
  • Assist with the settlement of wind purchase power agreements with numerous counterparties such as validating curtailments and providing calculations for the counterparties to confirm.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Be enrolled as a full-time student in a four-year Business, Finance, or Accounting program with at least two years completed or recent graduate (within the past 12 months).

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous internship or relevant work experience.
  • Additional certifications or coursework in field of study.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

Must meet the physical and environmental demands appropriate to the internship area. These may include prolonged standing or sitting, lifting up to 50 pounds, field work, confined spaces, working at heights, or exposure to chemicals or noise.
