Job summary

Basin Electric Power Cooperative in Bismarck, ND is offering a summer HR internship for 2027 (May 17–Aug 20). This temporary, project-based role provides real-world HR experience within a cooperative environment and exposure to operations and practices.

The intern will support HR Business Partners with daily activities, help prepare reports and data analyses, participate in projects on engagement, onboarding and policy updates, and assist with maintaining employee records.

Qualifications

• Must be a full-time student in a four-year Business or HR program with at least two years completed.
• Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5.

Responsibilities

Job description

This position is at our Headquarters location in Bismarck, ND.

This position is for the summer months of 2027 (approximately May 17, 2027 through August 20, 2027).

This position provides temporary, project-based assistance in the Human Resources division. It is designed to offer real-world experience to students pursuing degrees aligned with business and human resources fields. The incumbent will gain exposure to Cooperative operations and practices while supporting teams with hands‑on tasks and assignments appropriate to their field of study.

• Support HR Business Partners with day-to-day activities, including employee lifecycle processes, organizational updates, and HR initiatives.
• Assist in the preparation of reports, presentations, and data analysis.
• Participate in projects related to employee engagement, performance management, onboarding, and policy updates.
• Conduct research on HR best practices and provide recommendations for process improvements.
• Help coordinate employee events, training sessions, and communication initiatives.
• Maintain accuracy of employee records and documentation within HR systems.
• Shadow HR Business Partners during employee meetings and cross-functional business discussions (as appropriate).
• Provide general administrative support to the HR Business Partner team
• Follow safety, security, and procedural guidelines.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Be at least 18 years of age.
• Be enrolled as a full‑time student in a four‑year degree Business or Human Resources program with at least two years completed or recent graduate (within the past 12 months).
• Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5.
• Transcript required at time of application.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous internship or relevant work experience.
• Additional certifications or coursework in field of study.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

This position requires the ability to remain in a stationary position and to move about the office building, occasional reaching below and above shoulder level, constant use of keyboard/computer and other office productivity machinery, bending, kneeling, lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds, and pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds. It also requires finger dexterity and hand coordination.
