Job summary

The University of Kansas Lawrence Campus is seeking a Student Graphic Designer to assist the creative director in producing print and digital marketing materials. You will also support web updates and light coding tasks as needed, and handle office duties as assigned.

Key responsibilities include designing ads, flyers, and web images using InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator, plus WordPress updates and basic HTML/CSS/PHP tweaks. Strong multitasking and communication are essential.

Qualifications

  • Two years of experience using Adobe Creative Cloud applications (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro) and manipulating images/video for print, digital, and social media marketing.
  • Graphic design experience in print and electronic layout and design.

Responsibilities

  • 80% — Graphic Design & Content Creation: Designing print and digital marketing materials, editing and resizing images, and creating web graphics using InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
  • 15% — Web Support & Maintenance: Assisting with WordPress updates, web page tweaks, and light HTML/CSS/PHP coding adjustments as needed.
  • 5% — Office & Administrative Support: General office duties and project coordination as assigned, like printing and folding.

Job description

The student graphic designer will assist the creative director to produce print and digital marketing and promotional campaign materials, with additional web design, coding, and site updates assigned as needed. Duties will include:

  • Creating print and digital ads (including editing or creating video clips for social media), flyers, PowerPoints, web images, and other design projects.
  • Assisting with website maintenance, such as basic CSS, HTML, and PHP updates or content tweaks as needed.

Office duties may also be assigned, as needed. The ideal candidate will possess a strong ability to multitask, strong communication skills, and can demonstrate accountability.

Job Description

80% — Graphic Design & Content Creation:

  • Designing print and digital marketing materials, editing and resizing images, and creating web graphics using InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.

15% — Web Support & Maintenance:

  • Assisting with WordPress updates, web page tweaks, and light HTML/CSS/PHP coding adjustments as needed.

5% — Office & Administrative Support:

  • General office duties and project coordination as assigned, like printing and folding
Required Qualifications
  • Two (2) years of experience using Adobe Creative Cloud applications (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro) and manipulating images/video for print, digital, and social media marketing, as evidenced by application materials.
  • Graphic design experience in print and electronic layout and design, as evidenced by application materials.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with coding and web maintenance in WordPress or another CMS (HTML, CSS, PHP).
  • WordPress theme-building experience.
Position Requirements

During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

Employment Conditions

(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
