Qualifications

  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working with college students.

  • Ability to diffuse and respond effectively to situations involving intense pressures and/or unpredictable persons.
  • Physical ability to climb stairs to reach a residence hall top floor in an emergency.

Job Description

The Graduate Coordinator for Returning Student Communities supportsstudent wellbeing and success forsophomore and juniorstudents livinginon-campushousing.This roleincludes direct student interaction to help support retention initiatives, encourage personal growth and well-being, andpromote a successful transition to whatever comes next.

Duties:

  • Student Growth and Development – 30%
    • Support students navigating the life cycle of relationships and complex interpersonal dynamics, including participating in roommate mediations and working with students in challenging interpersonal situations
    • Coordinate and execute programming explicitly in support of sophomore and junior level students
    • Maintain regular contact with students in residence
    • Coordinate an annual off-campus housing fair
    • Provide information relevant to students transitioning out of campus housing
    • Dawg Discussion Follow Up
    • Direct student follow up during enrollment periods
    • Conduct student check ins and meetings as directed
    • Follow up with students after distressing situations
    • Maintain complete and accurate records regarding student and building concerns
  • On Call Duty Rotation – 10%
    • Respond via phone & in-person to various emergency and crisis situations
    • Collaborate with emergency personnel and campus resources to provide student support o Submit appropriate documentation to report concerns and actions taken
    • Support on-call student staff
    • Support all building related tasks including opening, closing, health & safety checks, and all needed maintenance activities
    • Work closely with American Campus Communities and Butler Facilities
    • Maintain accurate records regarding occupancy, room changes, facilities concerns, and damage billing for the unit
  • University and Division Responsibilities – 5%
    • Participate in and contribute to division and university meetings and events as directed
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be currently pursuing a graduate degree at an accredited institution of higher education
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills
  • Experience working with college students

  • Physical ability to climb stairs in order to reach the top floor of a residence hall in an emergency situation without assistance

Position Compensation:

  • $12,000 stipend per year, paid monthly over a 10 month appointment (August 1 - May 31)
  • This position is expected to work 20 hours per week. Hours may vary during peak periods.
  • Tuition assistance of $5,000 for a Butler graduate program
  • No tuition assistance for Non-Butler Graduate Programs
  • Residential Meal Plan during the academic term
