Job summary

Southern Virginia University’s Office of Financial Aid is seeking a motivated Financial Aid Specialist to assist students in navigating the financial aid process. You will help students access scholarships, student loans, and grants while ensuring compliance with federal regulations and institutional policies.

Qualifications

• Strong relationship-building skills and ability to meet strict goals and deadlines
• Highly organized and detail-oriented with good judgment
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
• Empathy and social intelligence in interactions with students and families
• Experience with federal financial aid regulations and compliance considerations

Responsibilities

• Understand and apply federal financial aid regulations
• Guide students through the financial aid application process
• Track and facilitate student progress in obtaining aid
• Create fair financial aid packages based on guidelines and eligibility
• Inform students about institutional awards and other resources
• Disburse financial aid accurately to qualified students
• Provide financial literacy education to students and parents
• Build relationships with students and parents and communicate regularly
• Meet department performance goals for outreach, processing timelines, and compliance
• Maintain accurate records using departmental software and participate in training
