Job summary

Ursinus College is seeking a reliable groundskeeper to join a busy facilities team. You will complete maintenance tasks, mow lawns, prune shrubs, and help with carpentry and basic repairs to keep campus grounds safe and welcoming.

The role requires 1–2 years in facilities or groundskeeping, a high school diploma, and the ability to work with diverse staff. You will operate power equipment and collaborate with staff to maintain the college environment.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years’ facilities or groundskeeping experience required.

Responsibilities

• Complete maintenance work orders & assignments in a timely manner.
• Perform basic service and repair on plumbing fixtures, open clogged lines and drains.
• Assist with carpentry and repair work.
• Operate power equipment and tools including saws, routers, drills, sanders, planers, drill presses and hand tools.
• Always obey safety requirements and procedures and post safety notices as needed.
• Mow lawns, prune bushes and trees, weed flower beds, edge walkways, remove leaves and debris, plant grass, trees and shrubs.
• Take on special landscaping or planting projects as needed by operations or grounds supervisor.
• Collaborate with the maintenance team to keep grounds and buildings well cared for.
• Move and store furniture, equipment, and supplies; clean storage areas.

About the Position:

Specific Responsibilities:

• Complete maintenance work orders & assignments in a timely manner.
• Perform basic service and repair on plumbing fixtures, open clogged lines and drains.
• Assist with carpentry and repair work.
• Operate a variety of machinery, equipment and tools including saws, router, drills, sanders, planers, drill presses and various hand tools.
• Always obey all safety requirements and procedures.
• Secure the work area and post proper safety notices for other users of the space prior to beginning work.
• Give the grounds a manicured look, including:
  • Mow the lawns, prune the bushes and trees, weed flower beds and around shrubbery, edge the walkways
  • Remove leaves from beds, remove branches, brush, or tree stumps as appropriate
  • Plant grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs
• Take on special landscaping or planting projects as deemed necessary by the operations or grounds supervisor
• Collaborate with maintenance team to make sure the grounds and the buildings are always properly cared for
• Hauls, moves, and stores furniture, equipment, and supplies; cleans storage areas as needed.
• Requires the use of specialized power equipment
• Special events support as needed

Qualifications:

Required

• High school diploma/GED required
• 1 – 2 years’ facilities or groundskeeping experience
• Knowledge and use of specialized grounds equipment and power tools
• Must possess excellent customer service skills and have an overall concern of the general welfare of the college and community
• Must be a reliable worker who is able to perform routine tasks without supervision and establish work priorities

Working Conditions:

• Must obey all safety requirement and procedures in operation of all power equipment and hand tools; wears protective safety glasses, shoes, respirators, clothing, and other safety equipment as required
• Must be able to lift 25 pounds
• Ability to work well in a team environment and communicate with a diverse community
