Key Responsibilities
Under general supervision, performs necessary duties to maintain campus grounds clean, neat and attractive. Performs necessary preparations for scheduled events including athletics.
Essential Job Functions
- Maintain campus grounds: mowing grass, blowing down walks, pruning shrubs and trees, trimming, de‑weeding, edging sidewalks, flower beds, walls and curbs, and clean up and removal of leaves, dirt, debris and trash.
- Plant grass, trees, flowers, shrubs and plants; spray, broadcast, or inject lawns, trees, flowers, shrubs and plants with fertilizers, insecticides or fungicides.
- Clear snow and ice from walks, driveways, and college roads manually or using motorized equipment.
- Operate various motorized grounds equipment with or without attachments.
- Assist in preparing athletic fields for intercollegiate events, intramural contests, and other sports‑related activities.
- Irrigate athletic fields, lawns, flower and shrub beds as necessary with fixed or portable irrigation equipment.
- Clean out drainage ditches, culverts, and storm‑water inlets.
- Assist in loading and unloading supplies and equipment and perform deliveries.
- Perform necessary repairs and routine and planned maintenance on grounds equipment.
- Assist in the removal of trees, flowers, shrubs and plants as required.
- Record and notify supervisor of needed maintenance and repairs to equipment, vehicles or tools, as well as walkways, roads, athletic fields and grounds.
- Record and notify supervisor of elimination of safety hazards.
Position Qualifications
- Two years of experience within the last 5 years in horticulture, landscaping, grounds care, related field or qualified trainee.
- Basic knowledge of fertilizers and weed control.
- High school graduate or GED; ability to read, write and perform basic math.
- Ability to operate all college‑owned vehicles, grounds equipment and forklift.
- Ability to push, pull and lift 50 lbs regularly.
- Valid PA driver’s license free of major violations.
Supervision
- Oral and/or written instructions received from designated supervisor.
- Employees in this classification have no supervisory duties.
Physical Demands
Ability to lift equipment and plant material as required.
Special Instructions to Applicants
This position is for Monday – Friday 7am – 3pm.
