Job summary

University of Kansas is seeking a Special Event Monitor to provide on-site assistance and supervision for events and reservations across KU Recreation Services facilities in Lawrence. You will enforce facility policies, monitor participant safety, and respond to incidents during varied shifts, including early morning, afternoon, evening and late-night hours.

Candidates must be CPR/AED certified within 1 month of hire and have strong customer service skills.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated customer service experience required.
  • CPR/AED certification within 30 days after hire date.
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License required.

Responsibilities

  • Actively supervise all event participants to ensure safety at KU Recreation Services facilities and equipment.
  • Enforce KU Recreation Services facility policies and procedures.
  • Work all shifts as assigned; shifts may be picked up voluntarily or substituted when available.
  • Maintain a high level of integrity and consistency in decisions, actions, and enforcement.
  • Implement risk management procedures when necessary and be available to staff events during and outside open hours.
  • Be prepared to staff events at ASRFC, Shenk Sports Complex, Superfield, Central Field, Outdoor Volleyball, and Tennis Courts as scheduled.
  • Ensure all participants have signed a participant waiver and carry necessary emergency items.
  • Complete event monitor reports with detailed information and document broken equipment for follow-up.
  • File reports for high-risk scenarios (e.g., tornado/fire, injuries, or contact with law enforcement).
