Job summary

Salt Lake Community College seeks Peer Mentors to support the Bruin Scholar Program Coordinators and students. This role centers on student interactions, helping coordinators stay connected with students, and social and academic event planning and execution.

Qualifications

• Must be a current SLCC student.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States.
• Must have a 2.0 GPA or higher.
• Part-time availability of 10–20 hours per week.
• Strong written and verbal communication.
• Familiar with SLCC enrollment and registration processes.

Responsibilities

• Continuous follow-up with Bruin Scholars to help locate resources and encourage enrollment.
• Research and create activities to promote learning and campus involvement.
• Be familiar with SLCC enrollment and registration processes.
• Be familiar with Banner and MySuccess to locate information and assist with Orientation holds.
• Track student interactions and outcomes.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the coordinator.

Job description

Peer Mentors support Bruin Scholar Program Coordinators and students. A Peer Mentors position is centered on student interactions, helping coordinators stay connected with students, and social and academic event planning and execution.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

1. Continuous follow-up with students in the Bruin Scholars program to assist them in locating needed resources; encouraging them to continuously enroll in school; directing them to an advisor for any academic concerns.
2. Researching and creating activities to encourage learning and involvement in SLCC.
3. Being familiar with SLCC enrollment and registration process.
4. Being familiar with Banner and MySuccess to locate needed information and assist the office with Orientation holds.
5. Track student interactions.
6. Other duties as assigned by coordinator.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

1. Communicate effectively (in writing and verbally) with a wide range of diverse individuals.
2. Demonstrate excellent customer service skills, cultural competencies, and sensibilities.
3. Work collaboratively with other office staff, a variety of campus departments and community personnel.
4. Utilize basic computer operating systems and SLCC's computer systems (Banner, DegreeWorks, Ring Central, MySuccess, Teams, Loops, and Sharepoint).
5. Demonstrate professionalism.
6. Knowledge of HB 144 and other Undocumented Student resources.
