Summary of Job Duties: The student employee performs quality ultrasound images for medical interpretation within the UAMS hospital and Radiology department. The sonographer will perform a wide variety of ultrasound studies in collaboration with the ordering provider and reading radiologist requests. This position requires rotational after hours/weekend and holiday call coverage. The sonographer will work closely with radiologists in order to provide needed information to make an accurate diagnosis. They will assist physicians in such procedures as renal biopsies, sonohysterograms, and lumason studies. This position requires the sonographer to join alongside the academic achievement of students, residents, and fellows.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma OR GED PLUS Completed one year of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) program and be in good standing.

Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Perform quality ultrasound imaging including abdomen, abdomen Doppler, elastography, renal, pelvic (transabdominal and transvaginal), neonatal (head, abdomen and spine), 1st, 2nd and 3rd trimester in-house ob, scrotal and thyroid ultrasounds.
  • Assist in procedures including biopsies, sonohysterograms and Lumason enhancement studies.
  • Obtain, review, and integrate pertinent patient history and supporting clinical data to facilitate optimal diagnostic results.
  • Explain procedures while being compassionate towards patients.
  • Perform advanced tests with portable equipment in patients’ rooms when necessary.
  • Maintain sonographic and other equipment in efficient operating order; assist with preventative maintenance on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Participate in various teaching and learning opportunities to further personal knowledge and expand the knowledge of others.
  • Perform additional manager or supervisor assigned duties.
  • Other duties may be assigned to this position.
