Summary of Job Duties:

The student employee performs quality ultrasound images for medical interpretation within the UAMS hospital and Radiology department. The sonographer will perform a wide variety of ultrasound studies in collaboration with the ordering provider and reading radiologist requests. This position requires rotational after hours/weekend and holiday call coverage. The sonographer will work closely with radiologists to provide needed information for accurate diagnoses. They will assist physicians in procedures such as renal biopsies, sonohysterograms, and lumason studies. The position supports academic achievement alongside students, residents, and fellows.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma OR GED PLUS Completed one year of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) program and be in good standing.

Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

• Perform quality ultrasound imaging including abdomen, Doppler, elastography, renal, pelvic (transabdominal and transvaginal), neonatal (head, abdomen, spine), 1st, 2nd and 3rd trimester obstetric, scrotal, and thyroid ultrasounds.
• Assist in procedures including biopsies, sonohysterograms, and Lumason enhancement studies.
• Review patient history and supporting clinical data to facilitate diagnostic results.
• Explain procedures with compassion towards patients.
• Perform advanced tests with portable equipment as needed.
• Maintain ultrasound and other equipment in good working order; assist with preventive maintenance.
• Participate in teaching and learning opportunities to expand knowledge.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by manager or supervisor.
