Job summary

The University of Central Missouri (UCM) is seeking an Art Gallery Assistant to support the Gallery Director in a welcoming, responsible role. No art/gallery experience is required, but curiosity and willingness to learn are essential.

Day-to-day duties include greeting visitors, sharing information about events, assisting with installations, and helping with cleaning and maintenance of the gallery. Variable hours up to 20 per week.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• No experience required.

Responsibilities

• Welcoming visitors to the gallery and guiding them as needed.
• Communicating about upcoming events and exhibitions to visitors.
• Reporting issues or questions to the Gallery Director.
• Monitor gallery to ensure the safety of artwork.
• Assist with installation and deinstallation of exhibitions.
• Assist with cleaning, spackling and painting walls after an exhibition.
• Open/close the gallery and operate A/V equipment.
• Sweep, dust, and take out trash as needed.
• Catalog or photograph artwork and retrieve items from campus offices.
• Organize tools and storage areas.

The Art Gallery Assistant position is a multi-faceted. You will assist the Gallery Director. The right person for this job is kind, courteous, welcoming and responsible. The candidate need not have art/gallery experience but it is a plus. Curiosity and openness to learn new skills is a must. Ability to work independently is a must.

Duties Include

• Welcoming visitors to the gallery.
• Communicating with visitors about upcoming events/exhibitions.
• Communicating questions from visitors and any problems that arise to the Gallery Director.
• Monitoring the gallery to ensure the safety of the artwork.
• Assisting with installation and deinstallation of exhibitions.
• Assisting with cleaning, spackling and painting walls after an exhibition.
• Opening/closing the gallery including operating a/v equipment.
• Sweeping the floor.
• Light dusting, Cleaning glass, Taking out trash as needed.
• Cataloging/photographing artwork.
• Retrieving artwork from other offices on campus.
• Organizing tools/storage area.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Variable depending on student's schedule.
