Position Title: Student Employee, Career Services

STATUS: Part-time

DEPARTMENT: Career Services

DIVISION: Student Development

REPORTS TO: Manager of Career Services

CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt

HIRING RANGE: $15.00 per hour (Position is FWS Eligible)

Job Description

We are seeking a driven, motivated, and organized student to join our Career Services team. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain valuable professional experience while actively contributing to the department's success. As a Career Services Student Employee, you will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the office, ensuring Career Services outreach and communications are timely, assisting staff members with projects, and providing exceptional service to students and visitors. This role is ideal for a proactive student eager to develop professional skills, take initiative, and make a meaningful impact.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Welcome students, staff, faculty, and community members to the Career Services Office.
  2. Refer students and visitors to other support services (SAC dept., tutoring, etc.).
  3. Answer phones and take and relay messages.
  4. Schedule student appointments.
  5. Create visual displays, flyers, brochures, bulletin boards, and other promotional materials to market Career Services and its programs.
  6. Provide front desk/office coverage during staff lunch, breaks, and in the absence of the Career Services Secretary.
  7. Monitor the computer center area and assist students with job search, career self-assessment, and career planning resources.
  8. Assist with setting up/breaking up events (job fairs, etc.) as needed.
  9. Perform office duties, such as copying, scanning materials, and assisting with mailings.
  10. Support Career Services staff in preparing materials and presentations and updating the department PowerPoint.
  11. Correspond with students, alumni, and employers through the Career Services email mailbox - direct questions to the appropriate staff member.
  12. Collaborate with department staff in gathering and aggregating data for monthly and annual reports.
  13. Ability to professionally interact with a diverse population, including all internal and external stakeholders.
  14. Review Handshake and other Career Services tools for student employment and internship opportunities.
  15. Perform other related duties as assigned.
  16. Confidentiality of student information is required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA and in good academic standing at JJC.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Duties are performed indoors in the usual office and/or outdoor environment.

Scheduled Weekly Hours

This is a student employee position that works around your class schedule. May work up to 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters. During summer and holiday breaks (Winter/Spring), may work up to 28 hours per week with supervisor approval. We are seeking one student whose schedule allows them to work the following hours to ensure consistent coverage in the Career Services Office:

  • Monday: 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM (2 hours)
  • Tuesday: 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM (2 hours)
  • Wednesday: 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM (2 hours)
  • Thursday: 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM (2 hours)
  • Total: 8-10 hours per week

The ideal candidate will be reliable, punctual, and able to maintain a welcoming and professional environment while assisting students, staff, and visitors during these scheduled hours.
