Job summary

Six Mile Media, the student newsroom affiliated with Georgia Highlands College, seeks a part-time Student Assistant to serve as Executive Producer / Editor-In-Chief. The role leads editorial direction across platforms and coordinates campus-wide contributors, including the podcast team.

The position requires current enrollment, a consistent weekly schedule (including an in-person newsroom day), and a strong ability to manage multiple projects with strong written communication.

Qualifications

• Must be currently enrolled at Georgia Highlands College for at least 6 credit hours.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and stay organized.
• Strong written communication skills.
• Willingness to receive and act on direct editorial feedback.
• Available for a consistent weekly schedule, including at least one in-person newsroom day.

Responsibilities

• Set weekly editorial priorities across all platforms and lead the weekly staff meeting.
• Coordinate the work of platform managers, editors, and podcast producer.
• Review and approve content for accuracy, fairness, and AP style adherence.
• Maintain the editorial calendar and meet deadlines.
• Assign work to Contributor Corps members and confirm assignments before start.
