Job summary

Zoox is seeking a part-time student worker to join the Safety Strategy & Operations team for a 6-month project focused on building a data-driven safety risk model for autonomous driving, plus data analysis. You will work closely with engineers and researchers to develop a robust approach and learn from real-world driving and simulation data.

The role requires strong Python skills, data manipulation abilities (SQL/PySpark/Scala), and a quantitative mindset.

Qualifications

• Analyze large-scale driving and simulation data to identify trends and opportunities to improve autonomy performance.
• Pursue a B.S. or M.S. in Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics, Physics, or similar.
• Strong programming skills in Python.
• Solid data manipulation understanding (e.g., SQL, PySpark, Scala).
• Solid foundation in statistics, machine learning, and risk or reliability modeling.
• Communicate complex results and trade-offs clearly to the team.
• Comfort operating independently under high uncertainty on open-ended problems.

Responsibilities

• Assist analyzing large-scale driving and simulation datasets to identify trends, edge cases, and opportunities to improve autonomy performance
• Assist developing and maintaining dataset management pipelines — curation, labeling, versioning, and quality checks.
• Support defining and running empirical experiments that show results with data.
