Job summary

IDEA Public Schools is seeking a Bus Monitor to support transportation for students with disabilities. The role involves lifting and assisting students, supervising boarding and alighting, and helping students navigate the campus building.

Responsibilities

• Lift and assist students with disabilities on and off the bus.
• Supervise students as they board and alight from the bus and cross streets.
• Assist students in the building and help them find their way.
• Learn and adapt to each student’s medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
• Manage student behavior and report discipline issues to the administrator.
• Communicate with teachers and parents daily regarding student behavior on the bus.
• Familiarize with routes to support the driver.
• Maintain an updated route schedule.
• Supervise use of seat belts and harnesses by students.
• Follow emergency procedures and assist the driver with first aid when needed.
• Operate equipment following safety procedures.
• Follow established procedures for lifting and assisting students.
• Familiarize with transportation and special education office procedures.
• Help keep the bus clean.
• Work irregular hours as needed.
