Job summary

IDEA Public Schools is seeking a Bus Monitor in Texas to assist the driver in safely transporting students with disabilities. The role requires lifting, supervising boarding and crossing, and maintaining daily communication with teachers and parents.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

• Lift and carry students with disabilities on and off the bus.
• Supervise students as they board and leave the bus and cross streets.
• Assist students into buildings and help them find their way.
• Adapt to each student’s medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
• Manage student behavior and report discipline problems to the administrator.
• Communicate daily with teachers and parents about student behavior on the bus.
• Familiarize with routes to assist the driver; maintain an updated route schedule.
• Supervise seat belts, harnesses, or car seats.
• Follow emergency procedures and aid the driver in first aid when needed.
• Operate equipment according to safety procedures.
• Follow procedures to perform duties including lifting and assisting students.
• Follow transportation and special education office procedures.
• Help the driver keep the bus clean.
• Work irregular hours as needed.
