Job summary

IDEA Public Schools is seeking a Bus Monitor to ride buses and assist the driver in ensuring safe, orderly transportation for students with disabilities. The role involves lifting and supervising students, communicating with staff and parents, and staying familiar with routes to support the driver.

Responsibilities

• Lift and assist students with disabilities on and off the bus.
• Supervise students as they board and exit the bus and cross street.
• Help students find their way into buildings and classrooms.
• Adapt to each student’s medical, physical, and emotional needs.
• Monitor and report student behavior to administrators.
• Communicate with teachers and parents about student behavior on the bus.
• Familiarize with routes and assist the driver as needed.
• Maintain updated route schedules.
• Supervise use of seat belts and car seats.
• Follow emergency procedures and assist driver with first aid if necessary.
• Operate equipment according to safety procedures.
