Job summary

IDEA Public Schools seeks a bus aide to support students with disabilities on and around the school bus. You will assist with boarding, safety, routines, and navigation to buildings, while learning each student’s unique needs.

Strong communication with teachers and parents will be essential as you ensure safe transport and daily positive outcomes for students. The role involves handling students with diverse medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs, managing behavior, and following

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Ability to work with children with disabilities.
• Ability to follow verbal instructions and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Lift and assist students with disabilities on and off the bus.
• Supervise students boarding and leaving the bus and crossing the street.
• Escort students into buildings and help them navigate to their destinations.
• Learn and adapt to each student’s medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
• Manage student behavior and report disciplinary issues to the administrator.
• Communicate with teachers and parents daily regarding student behavior on the bus.
• Familiarize yourself with routes and assist the driver as needed.
• Maintain an updated route schedule.
• Monitor use of seat belts, harnesses, or car seats.
• Follow emergency procedures and assist the driver with first aid if needed.
• Operate equipment safely and follow established procedures for lifting and assistance.
• Follow procedures from transportation and special education offices.
