Job summary

Cedar Falls Community Schools is seeking a part-time Bus Chaperone at Southdale Elementary in Cedar Falls, IA. You will assist students during loading, transit, and unloading, maintaining order and safety under the supervision of the district nurse and driver.

Training will be provided to support emergency procedures and report writing as needed. The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage behavior in a transportation setting

Qualifications

• Ability to defuse potentially emotional or confrontational situations.
• Knowledge of safe practices for student transportation.
• Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations and communicate clear directions.

Responsibilities

• Assist students in boarding the bus and seating assignments.
• Ensure students are restrained when required by regulation.
• Help secure seat belts, harnesses and wheelchair clamps.
• Maintain order to prevent driver distraction and intervene in disputes.
• Prepare and provide verbal or written reports to district officials as needed.
• Know and perform emergency evacuation procedures and basic First Aid.
