Job summary

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) is seeking candidates for a Student Bus Operator. You will train to operate WMATA buses on scheduled routes and provide courteous customer service while learning safety rules, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Successful candidates pass exams and demonstrations in a safety sensitive environment. Candidate must be able to learn inspections, read maps, and adhere to policies.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of relevant regulations and safety policies.
• Familiar with WMATA policies, rules and procedures.
• Understanding defensive driving techniques and vehicle safety.
• Knowledge of bus routes and schedules.
• Ability to learn inspection procedures and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Complete Bus Operator and CDL training, including classroom and on-route instruction.
• If already licensed, participate in the CDL portion as needed.
• Perform pre- and post-operation vehicle inspections and report safety issues.
• Follow all safety policies and procedures.
• Safely operate a passenger bus on assigned routes and deliver excellent customer service.
• Monitor vehicle readiness and report conditions as required.
• Complete and submit accident and incident reports per guidelines.
