Job summary

The Broadside at Central Oregon Community College in Bend, OR invites applications for a part-time student Broadside Reporter position. You will research, report, write, edit and promote news and opinion content for The Broadside’s website, social channels and print editions.

As a student reporter, you will conduct interviews, follow AP style, and produce two stories per week under supervision of the News/Opinion Editor. This is a stipend-based role for the 2026-2027 academic year.

Qualifications

• Must be currently enrolled in COCC with at least 6 credits.
• Experience with AP Style journalism.
• Experience with Google Sheets for content planning.
• Familiar with website content management systems.
• Experience with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat).

Responsibilities

• Report and write two stories per week for The Broadside.
• Conduct interviews of students, staff, faculty, local officials and others.
• Select stories with Bend-area audiences in mind (Bend, Redmond, La Pine, Madras).
• Be an advocate for The Broadside and represent the publication professionally.
• Perform other duties to support The Broadside’s objectives.
