Job summary

Virginia Theological Seminary, Alexandria, VA, seeks a Staff Accountant and Student Billing Coordinator to manage student billing, financial aid support, cash and investment accounting, and related functions for the Seminary and the General Seminary. You will report to the Director of Finance and Accounting and support month-end closings and audits.

Ideal candidates have 1–2 years of accounting experience, a 4-year degree in finance or accounting, and strong skills in MS Office and accounting

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting preferred; equivalent related experience may be considered.
• 1–2 years of relevant accounting experience preferred.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft 365, and other databases; Blackbaud Financial Edge preferred.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the reconciliation of cash and other balance sheet accounts.
• Prepare monthly bank adjustment journal entries.
• Back up accounts payable and accounts receivable as needed.
• Prepare and maintain accounting records for investment vehicles.
• Prepare endowment deposits and spending policy entries.
• Post payments, deposits, and account transactions; generate bills and statements.
• Monitor delinquent accounts and set up payment plans.
• Support financial aid processing and student refunds.
• Process year-end tax forms (1098-T and 1042S).
• Prepare month-end closing entries and monthly financial reports.
• Attend committee meetings and assist with audits.
