Job summary

URC Wilson & Company, Inc., Engineers & Architects in Phoenix seeks a full-time Structural Practice Lead P.E. to lead complex building structure design projects and mentor staff.

You will manage design tasks across reinforced concrete, steel, and other systems, coordinate with CAD/REVIT teams, ensure code compliance, and communicate effectively with clients and engineers. Salary ranges from $125,000 to $155,000 plus benefits.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10+ years of experience in structural design.
• Professional Engineer licensed in at least one state; ability to obtain licenses in others within 6 months is preferred.
• Experience with plan development, analysis and design calculations, quality control of building structures, and familiarity with IBC, AISC, ACI, AISI, NDS, and state-specific codes.

Job description

Our Phoenix office is currently seeking a full-time Structural Practice Lead P.E. to support our structural team. The ideal candidate will have experience in building structural design projects and performing complex planning, analysis, design, and construction administration for all structural aspects of building projects. We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills who enjoys being part of a team performing office and fieldwork.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and detail building type structures including reinforced concrete, pre‑stressed concrete, steel, light gauge steel, wood, earth retaining systems, and light industrial structures.
• Perform complex engineering tasks accurately and extract engineering information from CAD and REVIT drawings.
• Develop drawings, specifications, and other materials suitable for procurement and construction purposes.
• Lead the structural design of small to medium‑size projects and mentor entry‑level staff in producing construction drawings.
• Communicate effectively with entry‑level staff, senior‑level staff, clients, and multidisciplinary engineers.

Required Skills

• Effective communication skills – both verbal and written.
• Understanding engineering principles to lead and perform engineering designs and collaborate with structural engineers and CAD/REVIT technicians to develop plans, specifications, and estimates.

Required Experience

• Minimum 10 plus years of experience in structural design.
• Bachelor’s degree in civil/structural engineering; advanced degree preferred.
• Professional Engineer licensed in at least one State with the ability to obtain licenses in other states within 6 months is preferred.
• Experience in plan development, analysis and design calculations, quality control of building structures, and familiarity with IBC, AISC, ACI, AISI, NDS, and state‑specific codes.
• Experience using software such as Mathcad, RISA, Enercalc, ETABS, SAP2000, and other related engineering software.
• Seismic design experience preferred.
• Experience with design‑build and alternative delivery methods preferred.
• Ability to travel for business if required.

Salary Range

$125,000 - $155,000 + depending on experience
