Job summary

Confidential Employer in Phoenix, AZ seeks an experienced structural engineer to lead building projects across commercial, industrial and residential sectors. You will design, review, and seal structural documents, and engage with clients and teams on-site.

The role involves 10–15% field inspections and mentoring junior engineers, with a focus on ownership and quality. Employer-paid benefits and a robust licensing/education program are provided.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering and AZ PE license or eligibility within 6 months.
  • 4+ years of building structural engineering/design experience.
  • Experience with commercial, industrial, or residential structures.
  • Valid driver's license; willingness for field inspections.

Responsibilities

  • Lead structural design projects for commercial, industrial, and residential buildings.
  • Prepare and review structural calculations, drawings, and details.
  • Design building systems using steel, concrete, masonry, wood, and cold-formed steel.
  • Oversee design through construction, ensuring quality and timely delivery.
  • Review submittals, respond to RFIs, resolve design issues.
  • Seal calculations and documents as licensed.
  • Perform occasional building inspections and site visits.
  • Coordinate with clients, architects, contractors, and internal teams.
  • Mentor junior engineers and share knowledge.

Join our Phoenix-based engineering team in a collaborative office environment, with approximately 10% to 15% of your time spent conducting field inspections and visiting project sites throughout the Greater Phoenix area.

Note

Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, a PE license with Arizona registration or eligibility to obtain Arizona registration within 6 months, and 4+ years of building structural engineering/design experience. This position focuses specifically on building structures. Experience limited to bridges, highways, or transportation infrastructure does not qualify.

Job Description

  • Review construction submittals, respond to RFIs, and resolve design and construction challenges.
  • Review and seal structural calculations and construction documents as authorized by your professional license.
  • Perform occasional building inspections and field assessments to support project requirements.
  • Coordinate with clients, architects, contractors, and internal engineering teams.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a supportive, knowledge-sharing environment.
  • Help strengthen client relationships and identify opportunities for continued growth.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license with Arizona registration or eligibility to obtain it within 6 months.
  • 4+ years of structural engineering and design experience involving buildings.
  • Experience with commercial, industrial, or residential structural systems.
  • Knowledge of structural calculations, construction documents, and applicable building codes.
  • Ability to manage engineering assignments independently and coordinate effectively with clients.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to conduct occasional field inspections.
  • Strong technical communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, RISA-3D, RAM, Enercalc, Mathcad, or similar engineering software preferred.
  • SE license, graduate degree, Engineer of Record experience, and junior engineer mentorship experience are pluses.
