Job summary

Horrocks seeks a Structures Engineer to join our employee-focused, regional multidisciplinary engineering firm. You will design and analyze vertical structures for heavy civil projects, preparing construction documents and coordinating with a multidisciplinary team to meet PS&E goals.

The role requires a B.S. in Civil Engineering, 7–10 years of design experience, PE licensure (or within 1 year), and willingness to travel up to 10%.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in Civil Engineering.
• 7 to 10 years of design experience.
• PE licensure or ability to obtain within 1 year.
• Travel <10% to projects.
• Experience in multidisciplinary teams is a plus.
• Design Build/Alternative Delivery experience is a plus.
• Established relationships with local clients (DOT) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design and analyze vertical structures for site/civil projects.
• Prepare designs, structural calculations, cost estimates, and specifications.
• Deliver PS&E contract documents on time and within budget.
• Perform structural analysis using Enercalc, L-Pile, STAAD and Bentley tools.
• Design concrete vaults, culverts, storage tanks, and booster station structures.
• Analyze foundations, abutments, and specialty components for federal projects.
• Maintain client relationships and support regional presence.
• Lead structures on smaller projects and coordinate staff and design efforts.

What are the core responsibilities for the role?

• Design and analyze vertical structures for site/civil projects
• Prepare designs, structural calculations, cost estimates, and specifications
• Work in cooperation with a multidisciplinary staff to deliver PS&E contract documents on time and within the project budget for local agencies, federal agencies, state DOTs, and developers
• Perform structural analysis using Enercalc, L-Pile, STAAD and other Bentley Engineering software
• Design and analyze concrete vaults, culverts, storage tanks, and booster station structures in support of municipal projects
• Design and analyze foundations, abutments, and various types of specialty components in support of federal projects
• Design and analyze retaining walls and other structural components in support of roadway or site civil projects
• Establish and maintain client relationships; ensure client satisfaction; ensure client objectives are met
• Assist in building a strong regional presence for the firm in transportation and structural engineering
• Structures lead for smaller projects, coordinating staff and design efforts

Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies

• B.S. degree in Civil Engineering
• 7 to 10 years of design experience
• Professional Engineering (PE) licensure or ability to obtain PE within one year
• Willingness to work on projects locally or in workshare with other offices, some travel required--<10%
• Experience working in multidisciplinary teams a plus
• Design Build and Alternative Delivery experience a plus
• Established relationships with local clients (Department of Transportation) a plus
• Solid understanding of vertical structure projects and multiple types of construction
