Job summary

Telecon is seeking a Structured Cabling Technician to install and test fiber, copper, CAT5/6 cabling in commercial or institutional buildings. You will label cables, perform tests, and assist senior technicians while ensuring safety compliance.

The role requires a valid Ontario G license, cabling experience, and the ability to read drawings. Health & Safety training and a driver’s license are valued assets.

Qualifications

  • Valid Ontario G driver’s license with clear driving abstract.
  • Construction cabling/installation experience is an asset.
  • Ability to read drawings or schematics.
  • Familiarity with Belden, Panduit and Corning design products is an asset.
  • Professional, reliable, with attention to detail.
  • Strong communication with diverse individuals and calm handling of issues.
  • Organized work style with ability to meet deadlines.
  • Must be willing to undergo a pre-employment background check.

Responsibilities

  • Install structured cabling (CAT 5E/6 and fiber) per project diagrams.
  • Label cables to defined standards and test after installation.
  • Maintain strong customer relations through daily contact.
  • Install services, extra outlets and equipment in industrial/commercial sites.
  • Assist senior/lead technicians on daily service calls.
  • Follow Health & Safety regulations and company policy.

Structured Cabling Technician

The Structured Cabling Technician is responsible for wiring fiber, coax, copper, CAT 5 and CAT 6 cable into commercial and/or institutional buildings for various services. Part of the role is to complete the termination and connectors and conduct testing of cable.

Location

Kingston, Ontario

Schedule

Day shift 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
Occasional afternoon shift 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm

Salary

The expected wage for this position is in the range of $22.00 - $27.00 per hour based on the richness and diversity of the candidate’s experience, training, skills and internal equity. The position or associated salary could vary depending on the profile of the candidate.

Responsibilities
  • Installation of structured cabling (CAT 5E, CAT 6 and others) and optical fiber according to the requirements (diagrams) infrastructure, plan and estimate time, quality etc. provided for in the contract)
  • Label cables according to defined standards
  • Perform the necessary tests after installation and makes the necessary corrections
  • Maintain strong customer relations through daily contact with customers
  • Install new services, extra outlets and equipment in Industrial and Commercial buildings
  • Assist senior and lead technicians in daily service calls
  • Learn and adhere to all applicable Health & Safety regulations, both legislatively mandated, and as outlined in company policy
Qualifications and Skills
  • Valid Ontario “G” driver’s license with clear driver’s abstract
  • Construction Labourer, Cabling and/or installation experience is an asset
  • The ability to read drawings is an asset
  • Knowledge of Belden, Panduit and Corning design products an asset
  • Professional, trustworthy, and reliable with a strong attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse individuals and to handle calmly and efficiently situations ranging from routine to emergency
  • Ability to organize work and consistently meet deadlines
  • Ability to work both independently
  • Working at Heights and Fall Arrest Certification is an asset
  • Selected Candidate must be willing to undergo a pre-employment criminal background check to the company's satisfaction
