Job summary

National Steel and Shipbuilding Com in Norfolk, Virginia, has an opening for 5 Structural Welders J1-J4 on the day shift (6 am - 2:45 pm, 45 min lunch). You must weld with SMAW, GMAW and FCAW and read weld gauges to produce quality welds for shipbuilding and repair.

Required: High School Diploma or GED plus 2 years related experience; ability to access Navy installations with DBIDS/NAVSEA badges; willingness to work with hand tools and read weld symbols. EOE HR dept contact for accommodations.

Qualifications

We currently have an exciting opportunity in our Steel Shop. This position specifically is located in Norfolk, Virginia. We are looking for 5Structural Welders J1- J4 for the day shift 6 am - 2:45pm with a 45 minute lunch.

GUIDELINES FOR STRUCTURE WELDER

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PURPOSE (Job Description)

The Structural Welder should be able to weld using SMAW, GMAW and FCAW welding process.

POSITION DEMANDS (Education/Training)

High School Diploma/GED plus 2 years directly related ship building/ship repair experience.

POSITION DEMANDS (Required Experience):

Should have knowledge of welding on different types of base metals (HY-80 & HY-100).

Know the different wire and gas combinations.

Should be proficient in using SMAW, GMAW and FCAW welding process.

Quality of weld should be acceptable for N.D.T. should be able to weld steel, aluminum, copper nickel, stainless steel.

Should be able to read weld gauges.

Should be able to use hand tools.

Some guidance from supervision will be needed.

Must know standard item 1689 and the guide lines of 5 S.

Should be able to weld using SMAW, GMAW and FCAW welding process.

Quality of weld should be acceptable for N.D.T.

Should be able to weld some pipe using SMAW process.

Should be able to weld Steel, aluminum, copper nickel, stainless steel.

Should be able to hook up oxygen and acetylene torch and read weld gauges.

Should be able to use hand tools with little supervision.

Should be able to weld using SMAW, GMAW and FCAW welding process.
