Job summary

City of Lubbock is seeking a Building Inspector to review new construction and alterations for compliance with building codes, ordinances, and laws. You will read blueprints and plans to determine contractor conformity during the construction process.

The role includes scheduling field inspections, inspecting various aspects of buildings, recording findings, noting violations, and sometimes issuing stop-work orders.

Qualifications

• Two years of college coursework in engineering, architecture, or related field.
• Three to six years of construction experience.
• Valid driver’s license; obtain code group certification within 1 year.

Responsibilities

• Schedule field inspections in assigned area.
• Inspect buildings under construction for code compliance.
• Interpret building codes and explain violations to contractors.
• Record and maintain inspection records.
• Note violations and/or problems encountered.
• Inspect existing structures for compliance before permits.
• Inform owners, contractors, builders, and supervisors of violations.
• May issue stop-work orders if needed.
• Perform final inspections for approval.
• Perform related duties as directed.
